LafargeHolcim to Close Paris, Zurich Offices

Consistent with its Strategy 2022, LafargeHolcim announced that it will close its head offices in Paris and Zurich by the end of the year, eliminating 200 jobs as part of a cost-cutting drive. Remaining positions in Switzerland will be moved to the company’s Holderbank site and a new corporate office in Zug. In Paris, remaining positions will be moved to Clamart, a commune in the southwestern suburbs of the city.

Cemex announced the launch of the Construrama Online Store in Mexico. This new tool for the online sale of construction materials is part of the company’s Cemex Go digital platform, which has already been adapted by more than 10,000 users since November.

Trade Commission Cements CRH, Ash Grove $3.5B Merger

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) cleared the path for CRH plc to acquire Overland Park, Kan.-based Ash Grove Cement for $3.5 billion after the company agreed to divest facilities in three states.

March Cement Shipments Drop Slightly

Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2018 were about 7.4 million metric tons (Mt), slightly less than shipments in March 2017, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through March totaled about 19.0 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2017.
