Fatality Reported at Lehigh Hanson Facility

A worker at the Lehigh Hanson cement plant in Cupertino, Calif., died when he was trapped in a burning car after a collision at the facility late last month, reported local media outlets.

Reports of a vehicle collision and subsequent fire at the facility prompted Santa Clara County sheriff’s officials and county firefighters to respond to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, said Sgt. Rich Glennon, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

Sheriff’s officials said the person who was trapped in the car was a worker at the facility, and that CAL-OSHA was immediately notified.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, the incident resulted in a single fatality of a worker,” Glennon said. “The Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and Lehigh Hanson are working together on investigating the incident.”
