Ultracem Joins World Cement Association

The World Cement Association (WCA) announced it has further expanded its international network of members by welcoming the Colombia-based Ultracem as a corporate member. The association now has a membership made up of 69 members and representatives that cover 38 countries.

“In a globalized world, we can only solve the main challenges facing the cement industry, like climate change, together. We are excited to welcome Ultracem to our membership, and particularly value their record of launching new environmental initiatives in the Colombian cement sector,” said Norman Greig, secretary general of the WCA.

Founded in 2011, Ultracem produces cement and concrete for the Colombian construction market with an annual capacity of 1.2 Mt cement from its plant in Galapa, Atlántico. In 2015, Ultracem built the first monolithic concrete dome in Colombia, with a capacity of 95,000 tonnes.

Ultracem promotes a management policy focused on the prevention and mitigation of environmental impact and engages in several social and environmental programs. Together with the Association of Regional Autonomous Corporations, a Colombian environmental management organization, Ultracem created the GEMAS environmental award. This prize recognizes people and organizations contributing to the improvement and conservation of the environment, as well as work done to help preserve natural resources and promote good sustainable practices in the Caribbean region.

“We are very pleased to join the WCA as a founding corporate member and joining this select network of companies. This is an important step for us, well aligned with our vision, as it will play an important role for our development by enabling us to continue our sustained efforts to innovate and provide the best quality products in our markets,” said Juan Manuel Ruiseco, CEO at Ultracem.
