Cement Shipments Increase Slightly in November

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in November 2019 were 7.9 million metric tons (Mt), a slight increase from shipments in November 2018, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through November totaled 94.4 Mt, an increase of 3.4% from those for the same period in 2018. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in November 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.

The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia) received 40% of November shipments.

Masonry cement shipments totaled 172,000 metric tons in November 2019, essentially unchanged from those in November 2018. Shipments for the year through November totaled 2.2 Mt, a slight decrease from those for the same period in 2018. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in November 2019 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee; these states received 58% of November shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 7.1 Mt in November 2019, an increase of 11% from production in November 2018. Production for the year through November totaled 72.3 Mt, an increase of 2.4% from the same period in 2018. The leading clinker-producing states in November 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania; these states accounted for 51% of clinker produced.
