Cemento Panamericano Opens $80 Million Plant

Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina headed a ribbon cutting ceremony last week for the Cemento Panamericano (PANAM) plant in Villa Gautier, San Pedro. PANAM Executive Manuel Estrella said that the $80 million facility will create 800 direct and 2,400 indirect jobs.

Industry and Commerce Minister José del Castillo spoke at the event and praised Estrella, stressing the plant’s contribution to economic growth. “His entrepreneurial thrust has managed to build one of the country’s most ambitious industrial groups in the region.”

The PANAM cement plant, the country’s seventh, is capable of producing 520 metric tons, increasing domestic cement production capacity to nearly 7 Mt annually.
