Monarch Cement Reports Positive Second Quarter

The Monarch Cement Co., a Kansas-based cement producer, reported $28.2 million in total net sales from its cement business for the second quarter of 2017, compared to $26.9 million in the prior-year period.

For the first six months of the year, Monarch reported total net sales of $48.4 million from its cement business, compared to $44.0 million in the first half of 2016.

The company supplies its cement primarily to Kansas, Iowa, southeast Nebraska, western Missouri, northwest Arkansas and northern Oklahoma. Monarch also produces and suppliers ready-mixed concrete, concrete products and other building materials.

Overall, the company reported consolidated net sales for $45.6 million in the second quarter of 2017, only slightly higher than the $45.1 million reported in the same period last year, as a fall in sales in the ready-mixed concrete business offset the gains made from Monarch’s cement sales.

First half 2017 consolidated sales were $76.8 million, compared to $74.7 million in the prior-year period.
