Argos Earns Third Consecutive Energy Star Certification

Cementos Argos was granted Energy Star status from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the third-consecutive year for its commitment to energy efficiency and suitable operation management.

The certification recognizes the development and commitment of the company’s Harleyville (S.C.), Newberry (Fl.) and Roberta, (Ala.) cement plants to reduce energy use. When comparing these plants’ performance to other similar facilities in the country, they are among the 25 percent of the best in terms of energy efficiency.

“[At] Argos, we reassure our commitment to develop a more responsible production day after day by optimizing energy efficiency, managing this resource strategically, and carrying out cost-effective improvements,” said Maria Isabel Echeverri, sustainability vice president for Argos. “We are aware of the importance of energy to all industries and the planet; therefore, we’ve addressed all our efforts toward the development of competitive technologies and systems to guarantee the efficient use of this resource in all our operations. We are very happy to receive this honor that once again ratifies our commitment to sustainability, and validates our practice.”

The company noted that it adds value to its groups of interest by committing to prevention, mitigation and compensation of its impact, while working continuously in the search of innovative solutions that enable further efficiency in its processes at the same time.
