Cement Shipments Drop 2.4% in June

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2019 were 9.1 million metric tons (Mt), a decrease of 2.4% from shipments in June 2018, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through June totaled 46.5 Mt, a slight increase from those for the same period in 2018. 

The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in June 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Michigan. These states accounted for 39% of cement produced. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and New York) received 38% of June shipments.

Masonry cement shipments totaled 202,000 metric tons (t) in June 2019, a decrease of 6.1% from those in June 2018. Shipments for the year through June totaled 1.2 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2018. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states in June 2019 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 55% of June shipments.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled 7.0 Mt in June 2019, essentially unchanged from the output in June 2018. Production for the year through June totaled 36.0 Mt, essentially unchanged from the output for the same period in 2018. The leading clinker-producing states in June 2019 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama.
