Colacem Plant Hearing Date Set

The Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) case involving a proposed Colacem Canada cement plant in eastern Ontario will be heard beginning on November 2 for four weeks, reported NCPR.

The case involves two appeals connected to the planned Champlain Township plant. The township’s council previously rejected the zoning changes needed to construct the facility and Colacem appealed the decision to the LPAT. However, the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) council later approved the same proposed zoning changes. Action Champlain, a citizens group opposed to the Colacem project, objected to the decision and filed an appeal with the Ontario Municipal Board.

The proposed Colacem plant will have the capacity to produce 3,000 metric tons of clinker per day, with an estimated annual production of 1.16 million metric tons of cement.
